On April 3, 2025, a special Gala Concert took place at the Kaufman Music Center in Manhattan to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the birth and the 20th anniversary of the death of John Paul II. The event brought together representatives of the Polish and American communities for whom the pontificate of John Paul II remains a living source of inspiration. The entire evening unfolded as a carefully composed narrative about the Pope’s spiritual greatness and his extraordinary influence on the modern world.

The concert opened with a screening of the documentary film *Remembering John Paul II* directed by Jolanta Wodiczko. It was a moving journey through the life of Karol Wojtyła – from his hometown of Wadowice, through Kraków during the time of occupation and communism, to his election to the Papal See. The film recalled both the historic pilgrimages of John Paul II and his tremendous involvement in the political transformations of the 20th century. The final scenes – the funeral attended by millions of faithful and world leaders – set a tone of deep reflection for the event.

During the official segment, Mateusz Sakowicz, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in New York, delivered remarks emphasizing that the legacy of the Pope – a spiritual leader and defender of freedom – remains a lasting source of inspiration, and that participating in the ceremony was a special honor for him.

The concert began with a performance by the Copernicus Children’s Choir under the direction of Bożena Konkiel. Their touching renditions of *Panis Angelicus* by César Franck and *Ave Maria* by Giulio Caccini introduced the audience to an atmosphere of contemplation and spiritual harmony.

The evening was graced by outstanding artists: Brittany Renee and Paul Appleby – leading soloists of the Metropolitan Opera, violin virtuoso Richard Lin, talented young pianist Kamil Pacholec, and pianist Kyoung Im Kim. Their performances showcased both emotional depth and technical mastery, making the concert a true musical feast.

One of the most touching moments was the performance by nine-year-old Andrzejek Michoń, who sang *Barka* – John Paul II’s favorite hymn. His youthful sincerity and courage moved many hearts. Equally impactful was the performance by dancers Tiffany Mangulabnan and Blake Krapels, who prepared a subtle and symbolic choreography especially for the event. Their dance became a beautiful visual commentary to the musical narrative of the evening.

The concert concluded with the Copernicus Children’s Choir performing *Deep River*, arranged by Mack Wilberg – a rendition full of light, hope, and spiritual reflection.

The audience applauded the performers for a long time, reluctant to leave the hall. The event stood out not only for its artistic excellence but above all for the depth of its message. It was an evening that reminded all of the fundamental values of John Paul II’s pontificate – love, peace, forgiveness, and human dignity.
