On hot summer weekends, there’s always a choice: stay in the sun-drenched city or escape into nature. For those who wanted a Sunday getaway in July, the New York Chapter of the John Paul II Foundation organized a picnic on July 26 in the charming town of Lehighton, Pennsylvania.

The picnic spot was idyllic. Tables were set up in a vast clearing surrounded by forest. A stream flowed nearby, and mountain silhouettes loomed in the distance. Anyone in the mood for a walk could stroll along the ponds or wander down a forest path. Adding to the peaceful scene were chickens with their chicks and trout-filled ponds. Our hosts, Ewa and Mieczysław Klecha, welcomed us with great warmth and hospitality.

Since it was Sunday, our guest, Fr. Marek Rogowski, celebrated an outdoor Mass. It was attended not only by the picnic group but also by vacationers and other guests. He then blessed the food and the feast began.

It started with cold appetizers and salads, followed by grilling. Bożena Adamczyk bravely manned the grill, cooking sausages and chicken for everyone. Members of the Foundation’s board oversaw the event, making sure no one lacked food or drink.

A spontaneous music group formed on the spot featuring: Mieczysław Kufel on drums, Mieczysław Klecha on accordion, and Olek Koźlik on saxophone.

The lively music quickly got everyone singing and joining in the fun with classic picnic songs.

A raffle added even more excitement to the day, with all proceeds going toward the continued growth of the John Paul II Foundation. As it came time to leave, our host Mr. Mieczysław Klecha played a farewell medley for everyone.

On the bus ride back, Fr. Marek led a group prayer of the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. The return trip passed quickly. Refreshed and full of good memories, we said our goodbyes: 'See you at the next picnic!'
